- A 5-day training workshop, “Introduction to Health Economics,” held at the Indian Institute of Public Health Shillong from 20th–24th May 2025, was led by Dr. Mayur Trivedi in collaboration with the Institute of Economic Growth, Delhi. The workshop introduced participants to the fundamentals of health economics, healthcare markets, public goods, economic decision-making, and economic concepts concerning public health and healthcare systems. The sessions were interactive and used applied learning methodology; attendees explored key health system challenges and developed practical skills in policy costing and interpreting economic evidence. The workshop brought together students, researchers, and public health professionals, equipping them with essential tools to contribute to evidence-based decision-making in healthcare. - The Indian Institute of Public Health (IIPH) Shillong, in collaboration with True North Leisure Centre Shillong, conducted a hands-on Basic Life Support (BLS) training at its Lawmali campus, held on April 28, 2025. Designed to equip participants with essential lifesaving skills, the training covered CPR, AED usage, and choking relief techniques. Led by Dr. T. Jamir and Phibansuk Lyngdoh, with support from Isberth Tham of the 108 ambulance service, the session emphasized practical, real-world applications to build participants’ confidence and competence in emergency response. - A hands-on training, “From Raw Data to Insights: Data Analysis in R Software,” held at the Indian Institute of Public Health Shillong, was led by Drs. Ben Lambert and Sumali Bajaj from the University of Oxford. Using real-world data, participants were taught about Bayesian inference in R, how to visualize data effectively using ggplot2, the use of serocatalytic models in analyzing serosurvey data, and working with GitHub to facilitate data reproducibility and data sharing. Participants also explored techniques for visualizing and analyzing geospatial data in R.
The workshop brought together students, researchers, and public health professionals, offering them essential skills to enhance their data analysis skills in the field of public health. Dr. Gagandeep Kang, Director of Diagnostics, Genomics & Epidemiology at the Gates Foundation (USA), delivered a compelling public health lecture on the future of contagion. - The One Health Conclave 2025 in Shillong brought together experts to promote integrated approaches to human, animal, and environmental health. Discussion topics ranged from IIPH’s field work on diseases like scrub typhus and leptospirosis, insights on tropical diseases in Laos, and strategies under the National One Health Mission, to innovations in mosquito research, the role of AI in epidemiology, and the impact of high antibiotic use in poultry. Overall, the conclave stressed that interdisciplinary collaboration is essential for combating zoonotic diseases and antibiotic resistance, and for bolstering global public health strategies. - The Indian Institute of Public Health, Shillong, hosted a two-day workshop led by Dr. Elena N. Naumova, a PhD professor and chair at the Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University, Boston, USA.The workshop was attended by participants from Christian Medical College Vellore, Meghalaya Legislative Research Fellows, Meghalaya District Research Fellows (MBDA), Martin Luther Christian University, Institute of Governance, Nagaland Institute for Science and Technology, and IIPH Shillong. The sessions covered topics such as data analysis, ethical considerations submission procedures and effective communication and manuscript structure.
