“Transforming Mindsets”
The Indian Institute Public Health (IIPH) Shillong was established by the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) in collaboration with the Government of Meghalaya (GoM). The Institute aims to redress the limited institutional and systems capacity in public health in the northeast region of India. The northeast region of India is largely populated by indigenous peoples (scheduled tribes). Many areas in the northeast continue to grapple with poor health indices. The region consists of eight states namely: Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura. Together the land mass is bordered by Nepal, Bhutan, China, Myanmar and Bangladesh.
IIPHS is one of the five regional institutes of public health set up by the Public Health Foundation of India in collaboration with the Government of Meghalaya. IIPHS aims to redress the limited institutional and systems capacity of public health in the northeast region of India. The mandate of IIPHS includes capacity strengthening and improving health outcomes through engagement in research, education, training, policy, and advocacy activities that are relevant to the region and the country. IIPHS has ongoing research projects funded by international, national, and state agencies which will provide opportunities for experiential learning to our students. The IIPHS hosts a Centre for the Study of Complex Malaria in India (CSCMI), a collaborative initiative with New York University, USA and other partners, and national and international partners. IIPHS is also a Regional Resource Hub for Health Technology Assessment in India (RRH HTAIn) for the north-east region, funded by the Department of Health Research (DHR), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MOHFW). IIPHS in collaboration with ICAR has established a Zoonotic and Vector-Borne Diseases Research and Training Centre (ZVBDC), a One Health initiative funded by the DBT-WT India Alliance.
