The BPH 5th Semester students of the Indian Institute of Public Health Shillong hosted the Photovoice Exhibition 2025 on 5th December 2025, marking a significant milestone in their academic and community engagement journey.
The exhibition featured a powerful collection of photographs capturing the real-life environmental challenges faced by communities across Meghalaya and their impact on health and well-being. Through the Photovoice approach, students engaged directly with communities to document lived experiences, bringing forward stories that often remain unseen or unheard. Each photograph represented more than a visual record — it reflected personal narratives, social realities, and pressing public health concerns.
The event provided a meaningful platform for dialogue on environmental health, encouraging reflection on issues such as sanitation, waste management, water quality, and the broader social determinants of health. Attendees had the opportunity to interact with the students, understand the context behind each image, and appreciate the depth of community-centered learning.
The exhibition highlighted the importance of participatory approaches in public health education, reinforcing the value of empathy, observation, and critical engagement with community realities.
The department extends its sincere gratitude to all faculty members, guests, and participants whose presence, guidance, and feedback contributed to making the exhibition impactful and purposeful.
