The Indian Institute of Public Health Shillong (IIPH Shillong), in collaboration with the India Primary Healthcare Support Initiative (IPSI) and the Government of Meghalaya, officially launched the “Coaching Primary Health Teams” intervention on 15 October in Tura, West Garo Hills.
The initiative is designed to strengthen teamwork, mentorship, and leadership among primary healthcare personnel to enhance service delivery at Health & Wellness Centers (HWCs). By fostering a culture of collaborative practice and structured coaching, the programme seeks to improve coordination and performance across primary healthcare teams.
Shri Ramakrishna Chitturi, MD, NHM, underscored the importance of coaching in building staff competencies and improving service outcomes. Shri Benjamin D. Tariang, MCS, formally unveiled the Coaching Facilitators Manual and emphasized the critical role of teamwork in delivering quality healthcare services. Dr. Tiameren Jamir, Co-Principal Investigator (IPSI), highlighted how the model empowers PHC doctors to serve as coaches for HWC teams, thereby strengthening collaboration across different levels of the health system.
The event was attended by the Joint Director of Health Services, the District Medical & Health Officer of West Garo Hills, and medical staff from PHCs and HWCs.
This initiative marks a significant step toward building a more connected, supportive, and effective primary healthcare system in Meghalaya.
