Overview of the course:
The BSc PH program is being offered at the Indian Institute of Public Health Shillong (IIPHS) in collaboration with the Martin Luther Christian University, Shillong. The Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSc PH) program is a full-time course of 3 years’ duration with an optional fourth year of internship and or research training. Alternatively, the students may also opt for an integrated MPH program which is a three years BSc PH + 2 years Masters MPH (3+2). The BSc PH curriculum has been designed by various subject experts in the field of public health to help students learn about epidemiology, social sciences, environmental health sciences, health policy, health communication, disease outbreak investigation and health education. Students learn to assess a community’s health requirements, devise plans / policies, evaluate and implement health programs.
Course duration:
The BSc PH course involves three years (6 semesters) and an optional fourth year for field work/research training.
Eligibility:
To be eligible for admission a candidate shall have obtained:
- A two-year Secondary level or Pre-University examination (10+2) in any stream or its equivalent as recognized by the University OR
- Pre-degree course from a recognized University / Board (two years after ten years of
- schooling) OR
- Candidates completing 2 years Diploma in Allied Health Sciences after pre-university
- college (10+2)
- Lateral entry: Candidates who have completed 3 years Diploma in any Health Sciences, or diploma in public health/community medicine can join 3rd semester directly.

This is a course offered by IIPH Shillong in collaboration with the MLC University. The degree certificates will be issued by the University.
Course delivery:
Pedagogy: Lectures, practicum, field work, assignments, project, presentations, group work, case studies
Assessment: continuous formative evaluation, seminars, assignments, presentations, discussions, log class tests, group work and class participation.
Career prospects:
The BSc PH program has been designed to equip students with basic skills in public health such as health communication, program delivery, first responder, nutrition assessment, health needs assessment, disease outbreak investigation and research skills. These skills set will equip graduates to be placed in the health and wellness centres or health institutions. They can also work with non-government organisations working in the field of health.
